Wax vs. Wax/Resin vs. Resin

The ribbon must match both the label material and the performance requirement. Using a more expensive ribbon does not automatically produce a better result if it is poorly matched to the label.

GOOD

Wax

Designed primarily for coated and uncoated paper labels.

  • Excellent general-purpose choice
  • Lower print energy
  • Good barcode quality
  • Best for indoor applications with limited abrasion
BEST DURABILITY

Resin

Designed for demanding synthetic-label applications.

  • Highest abrasion resistance
  • Strong chemical resistance options
  • Suitable for harsh environments
  • Often paired with polyester and specialty films
