How to Measure Labels
A few measurements can usually identify the correct label format. For roll labels, width, height, core and outside diameter are especially important.
WIDTH →4.00 inHEIGHT ↓
Width: Measure across the label first.
Height: Measure in the direction the label feeds through the printer.
Measurements to collect
Label widthAcross the web, usually listed first: 4 × 6 means 4 inches wide.
Label height / lengthDirection of travel through the printer.
Core inside diameterCommon sizes vary by desktop and industrial printer.
Roll outside diameterMust fit within the printer or external media holder.
Gap or sensing methodGap, black mark, notch or continuous media.
Winding directionLabels may be wound face-in or face-out depending on equipment.
