Can I print thermal transfer labels without a ribbon?

No. Standard thermal transfer labels require a thermal transfer ribbon. If you need ribbon-free printing, the printer must support direct thermal printing and the media must be direct thermal material.

Do direct thermal labels fade?

They can. Direct thermal images are created in a heat-sensitive coating, so prolonged heat, sunlight, friction and some chemicals can darken or fade the image. The expected label life should be considered before choosing direct thermal.

How do I know which ribbon fits my printer?

Start with the printer manufacturer and exact model. Ribbon width, maximum ribbon length, core size and coated-side orientation all depend on the printer.

Can I use a resin ribbon on paper labels?

Sometimes, but it is often unnecessary and may not print optimally on every paper. Ribbon and label coatings should be tested as a matched system. Wax or wax/resin is usually a more appropriate starting point for paper.

What label material should I use in a freezer?

The complete construction matters: face stock, adhesive and application temperature. A freezer-grade adhesive may be required, and the label should be tested on the actual package at the actual application temperature.

What is the difference between permanent and removable adhesive?

Permanent adhesive is intended to remain bonded, while removable adhesive is designed for cleaner removal under defined conditions. Surface type, time, temperature and exposure can affect both.

What information do you need to quote a custom label?

Width, height, material, adhesive, roll quantity, core size, outside diameter, printer model, annual usage and any printing or artwork requirements are helpful. If you have an existing label or specification, that can speed up identification.

Can I request samples before ordering?

Yes. For applications involving difficult surfaces, temperature, chemicals or long service life, evaluating the proposed construction in the actual environment is especially valuable.
