Choose direct thermal when…

  • The label only needs to last through a short distribution or service cycle.
  • You want to eliminate ribbon loading and inventory.
  • The label will not be exposed to excessive heat, sunlight, abrasion or chemicals.
  • Shipping, receiving, food rotation or temporary identification is the primary use.

Choose thermal transfer when…

  • The printed image must remain readable for months or years.
  • The application requires synthetic materials.
  • The label may encounter abrasion, moisture, heat, chemicals or outdoor exposure.
  • You need the flexibility to match wax, wax/resin or resin ribbons to the label.
